Last update: Utilities

For new users of Mac devices or for those who come from the Windows or Linux ecosystem it can be a bit confusing to know how to make a screenshot or Mac screenshot since there is no “Print Screen” key available in Mac.

There are several methods to print screen on Mac:

1- Shift + Command + 3: this is the equivalent of “Print Screen”, that is, it captures the total screen and also saves it on the desktop as an image file.

2- Shift + Command + 4: with this method we can select an area of the screen to capture and create a file on the desktop.

3- Shift + Command + 4 + space bar: with this combination of keys the cursor will be a camera with which we can choose which window we want to capture. How in the two previous methods the capture is saved on the desktop as an image file.

4- Shift + Command + 3 + Control: captures the total of the screen and copies it to the clipboard so that we can paste it wherever we want.

5- Shift + Command + 4 + Control: captures the selected area of the screen and copies it to the clipboard so that we can paste it wherever we want.

The shift key may appear as an arrow pointing up.

The command key can appear as “cmd”, the symbol of the apple or the square symbol with four circles.

The control key may appear abbreviated as “ctrl”.

6- With a program: within the applications of our Mac, in the folder “Utilities” you can find the program “Snapshot”, with this application you can make screenshots without using the above key combinations. When capturing the image can be edited, printed or saved.
