With each advancement in the Apple universe, our devices become more sophisticated and offer new and exciting features. The Apple Watch is no exception. However, to fully enjoy these new features, it is essential to keep our device updated.
Updating a device, like the Apple Watch, not only improves its performance and fixes small problems that may arise, but also gives you access to new features and tools that Apple has designed to make your experience even more enjoyable and efficient. However, we understand that the update process may raise questions if you are not familiar with it.
We know that not everyone is a technology expert, and that is precisely why we have created this tutorial. We have designed each step in a simple and clear way, accompanied by screenshots, so you can follow the process without complications.
It doesn't matter if this is your first time trying to update a device or if you are simply looking for a visual guide to walk you through the process; We are here to help you. So, grab your Apple Watch and your iPhone, and get ready to give your watch the latest and greatest software Apple has to offer.
Important: Charge your Apple Watch to at least 50% and if possible keep it on its charging base to avoid problems and update delays.
You will also need to have your iPhone to complete the update process.
Updating your Apple Watch software will not reset it or delete any information or settings so you can continue using it normally when it's finished.
Step 1:
Press inwards on the digital crown of your Apple Watch, the crown is the wheel on the right side of the smartwatch.
By clicking on this wheel we will open the applications menu.
Step 2:
Move through the menu of available applications on your Apple Watch to find the “Settings” app, it is the gray icon with a cog icon.
Step 3:
Go down through the menu and click on “General”, this is the second option available on the Apple Watch screen, it also has the icon of a white gear wheel on a gray circle.
Step 4:
Within the General menu the second option is “Software Update”. Click on this option to continue.
Step 5:
Within the “Automatic Updates” section you can check if you have automatic updates activated, this means that if you have it activated, when a new update is available from Apple it will be automatically downloaded and installed when the Apple Watch is charging.
Step 6:
Go down through the “Software Update” section, if there is a new update available to download and install on the Apple Watch, the “Download and install” button will appear.
Click on this button to continue.
Step 7:
To install the update you must accept the conditions and terms of use on your iPhone, press the “OK” button that appears on the screen and return to your iPhone.
Step 8:
A window will appear on your iPhone indicating that you must read and accept the terms and conditions of use before installing the new watchOS update.
Click on the read button and the full text will open, go down and if you wish, read the full text, at the bottom right the “Agree” button will appear, click to continue with the installation of the Apple Watch update.
Step 9:
Go back to your Apple Watch and you will see the “Install” button enabled, make sure the Apple watch is connected to the charger and connected to a WiFi network.
Click on “Install” to begin the installation.
Keep your Apple Watch connected to the charger and within range of a WiFi network while the operating system update download and installation completes.
It will take a few minutes to complete, depending on the size of the update, the WiFi network, and the capacity of the Apple Watch processor (the older it will be, the slower it will be).
Once complete, your Apple Watch will reboot without losing your data.
